I had my Exxon Valdez moment when the rubber sealing ring in the =
original filter was not properly located. 60+/- psi and, of course, my =
not realizing what was going on=E2=80=A6..messy. Luckily, I had to back =
out of the garage and walk over to open the gate. So at least I spotted =
the leak before I drove off.=20

Years ago, in my student days, a fellow Healey owner=E2=80=A6.. He had a =
girlfriend whose father was less permissive than she was. He, cunningly =
(he thought) parked his car at the crest of their drive so he could =
freewheel down the slight gradient until he was away from the house. So, =
come the dawn, he sneaks downstairs and does exactly that. But the drive =
had an electronically controlled gate with a kind of knuckle thing in =
the centre of the tarmac against which the gates would locate. This =
thing somehow knocked his sump nut off. He switched on, drove off, ran =
it dry and wrecked the engine. Hey ho.

My experience with massive oil leak occurred when I replaced original =
filter with a spin-off.The problem was at the engine block and the =
adapter for the spin off. I had to modify the adapter by filing a small =
notch in it,so that it fit flat against the block. Problem solved THEN =
the cleanup began!
