Years ago someone suggested cleaning up the oil and spraying athletes' foot=
spray on and watch where is displaces as the oil drips leaving a trail to =
the source. I would imagine that if the added rear seal dislodged, it would=
not produce more oil than if the rear seal had never been added.

I know what you mean Michael, but I once had an oil filter leak that spewed=
out a substantial amount of oil, and a lot of it was left dripping from th=
e engine-gearbox junction. As I initially said, the filter leaks can be har=

I've not been following this string that closely as I have been travelling =
but I thought that the initial posts described the leak as coming from the =
engine-transmission junction and the small hole in the tranny. If that's t=
he case I don't see how a leak at the oil filter cannister could be the cau=
se.
I wonder if the scroll seal had been replaced by what we call a "proper" re=
ar seal and if it had somehow become dislodged, allowing major amounts of o=
il into the bellhousing and ontio the garage floor?
