Congratulations on the new car and also for surviving Round 1 with the M25.

K&N's are a big plus point if it is performance you are after, it will not
help you in keeping petrol costs down though : More Power = More Air (the
K&N's) + More Petrol.

Also, you cannot expect to just bolt on the new filters and drive off - you
must change the needles and the carb damping springs as well.  The
Triumphtune manual gives useful details about this.  I fitted K&N's to my
Spit and with a Bell Stainless Sports exhaust it ran superbly.  I never
drove the car with a standard exhaust on so I cannot comment if both changes
are required for best performance, although I suspect the answer is yes.

The hose you mention was to provide cool air from the front of the engine
bay to the air box.  K&N's do not require the airbox so the hoses are now
redundant.  You will need to ensure that the carb heat shield is in place to
deflect the hot exhaust manifold air away.

As I am now fitting a GT6 engine to my Spit, mail me off-line if you are
interested in any of the bits mentioned above second-hand.
