OK, FWIW, here's a dyno test performed by Grassroots Motorsports (April 2001)
on an Dual SU 1973 MGB engine (which seems pretty similar induction-wise)
under well-controlled conditions. The summary is as follows:
Orig engine baseline 56.8 bhp
Add Pertronix ignitor 61.1 bhp +4.3 hp +7.6%
Add Ignitor & MSD 6A 62.7 bhp +5.9 hp +10.4%
Optimize Timing 64.3 bhp +8.5 hp +13.2%
Add K&N air filters 65.9 bhp +9.1 hp +16.0%
The K&N's alone added 1.6 hp. They found that the paper element
"pancake-style" w/chrome platter type housing was the best choice. No filters
at all gave a 2 hp increase.
