Among my earliest memories is being in Wisconsin on my
grandfather's dairy farm and exploring an old shed where he
and my father kept their toys; a Ford Model A and Model T.
I grew up in the south around rusting heaps of one form or
another and must have gotten some of that into my blood. In
addition to the A and the T, we had a (Fords) '32 Roadster,
a '39 Coupe, a '46 Convertible, a midget racer of the late
40s, a brace of '67 Buick GS 400s and my first car, a '65
Mustang. My parents are still regular vendors at the Pate
Swap meet at Texas Motor Speedway, for those of you who are
in Texas and know what that is.
I'm an architect by degree and training but left the
mainstream rat race about eight years ago to work for Austin
Community College in Texas as a Construction Project
Coordinator, which was both more rewarding and fulfilling.
Two years ago I decided that I needed more management
experience to meet my career goals and took a job with a
friend as a Facilities Manager. I dont' need children, I
currently manage 87 of them, most of which are older than I
am.
So I spend my architect's creative energy on my house and
lawn these days, which is in a perpetual state of
renovation. We're about to recess a wall in the dining room
if the rain ever stops long enough for me to finish up an
exterior project. I also have a wall in the living room
that, for the life of me, I can't figure out what it wants
to be...
My wife (Amy) and I have been together for 17 years and just
celebrated our tenth anniversary by flying to Las Vegas and
getting re-married by an Elvis impersonator. We met when we
were in college. I was at a bar, someone tapped me on the
shoulder and asked me to dance. I was smitten and seven
years later we married. As I mentioned, we have no kids but
do have two cats, Gordon and Liiona, who are constant
companions. About a year ago I wrecked and sold my project
car and haven't replaced it. I joined the list as a
"newbie" then because I'd always liked Datsun roadsters, and
thought it a good next toy to have. I haven't bought one
yet, but am considering a couple.
Hi, I'm Thomas Wolfe and I don't like Macs.
