If every one on the list posts their bio, We'll have a good sized book of
material. The list is slightly larger than it was during the 1994 "Who's
Who" edition.
Ich bein Victor Laury, I own a yellow roadster. Is that enough?
I'm an under-paid automaton of a large public bureaucracy. "Environmental
Specialist II" sounds like a juicy title but I really started out as a
wrench turner and basically is what I still remain. I'm the type of guy that
needs to fix the problem. Recently, my job has evolved where my main duty is
pleading with government agencies to not fine us too hard. Mostly using the
same responses, A) the project is in funding, B) the project is in
procurement, or C) Regulation? There's a regulation on this?
I've never married, but have had some close calls. No children that I've
been informed of. Originally from Miami, FL, I now live in a house, hanging
off the side of a hill, on stilts, overlooking one the most amazing cities
in the world, Los Angeles. Three cats, good neighbors, quiet street, no
yard, no garage.
As the son of a third generation mechanic, my mind set is "if I can't fix
it, it's broke". That goes for cars as well as appliances, electronics,
plumbing, etc. What I don't know, I fake my way through it. Basically, your
typical "Jack of all trades - Master of none". I've owned Big-late-60's
Mopars (my first love was a 1968 Sport Fury III). Late 70's I teamed up with
another like minded friend, and together we turned out a Restored/modified
67 Camaro (his), a highly modified, 1977 V8 Chevy Monza Spider (mine) and a
68 SPL Roadster (his). in 78,79,80 and 81 I was free labor for an SCCA race
team in S. Fla, where we campaigned a 1974 Camaro in A sedan and IMSA GT-1.
We also built and raced (not me) a MGA coupe and a Bug-Eye Sprite.
My re-introduction to the world of Datsuns came in 1991 when I bought a 78
510 (A-10, known as a Laurel to the Assuies) wagon. She reminded me just how
tough and gratifying a Datsun was. In 1995, I started looking for a
roadster. I looked at many a tired, old Fairlady, until I saw an ad for a 70
2000. The owner asked me "You've been looking at several roadsters?" "Yep,
seen about 6 so far" His reply was, "In that case, bring the money". I
thought that was pretty ballsy of the guy, until I saw the car, He was
right! Very original, lovingly maintained and all the extras. How could I
refuse? The Datsun bug turned pathological, and I now have the roadster, a
72 240Z and a 65 320 pickup. Currently, I have the hots for a 1971 510 2
door, that project is in funding.
I've been an active Datsun-Roadster list member since 1997 and have been
proud to know many members as friends. Even if a have never met some of them
face to face.
