I found that, truly, it is a waste of effort to try and downshift like this.
I tried and tried over the past couple of seasons to be able to do this, but
I always had to compromise my braking (read: lighter braking) to downshift,
which isn't good for times, you know. I have abandoned this for autocross
use. Maybe this isn't the best idea but I don't want to lose time on course
because of that.
