Charlie:

I took the time to go to carfolio.com to get some data, here's what I found:

Toyota Starlet
Curb weight= 1532, wheelbase= 90.6, track front=50.8, rear=50.2

Lotus Europa Twin Cam
Curb weight=1567, wheelbase= 91, track front=53.5, rear=53.5

This is only one example of which I am sure there are many. So, as you can
plainly see, there are smaller cars that are included in the SM classes with
the same or more potential as some Lotus cars, in SM2 the Lotus cars were
explicitly banned, and I firmly believe it was only by association to being a
Lotus.

My car of course does not qualify by virtue of the Mazda 13B engine in a
Lotus car, because one of the main rules for SM and SM2 is that the chassis
and engine must be of the same marque.

Elans and Europa's may have been dominant autox cars in the 70's, 80's and well
into the 90's, but that is not the case in the 21st century. The SEB has moved
many cars down a class or two as they got older and technology on the newer
cars got better, but the Lotus' gets banned from more and more classes.

I think I just overspent my .02

I think it has a lot more to do with very small 900-1500 lb cars being very
potent autocross cars, and you make more people happy by excluding that
very small number of cars than you do by inclluding them.

I think we're doing an excellent job of accepting Lotus cars at this
point in time.
