All,
I'm just full of questions. I just got my 300 crank back from the shop. Had the journals turned down to fit the 3.9L block and also had the crank nitrided, since I want it to last forever.
Anyhow, I was putting the crank in the block to check for straightness, since the shop said that the nitriding process bent the crank due to the high heat. They bent it back to w/in 0.001" (is this good enough?) but suggested that I check it in the block.
So as I took the crank out of the bag, I noticed that in a couple of places, there appeared to be what looked like pin-pricks on the journal surface. Not alot, but maybe one or two per journal (main and rod). I cant feel them, but they look just like a tiny pin prick. Is this normal? Will these destroy my bearings?
The main journals had to be turned down 0.200" so all surface defects are long gone. The rod journals were turned down 0.010"
What gives?
James J.
