When I last raced my TR3 in 2012, the engine had been together for a coupl=
e years and I had been using Joe Gibbs=C2=A0 XP1 oil for probably 5 years.=
=C2=A0 Never had any problems with it dissolving the Aviation Permatex on t=
he rear seal enough to cause a leak, but I would find pieces of the sealant=
on the oil pick-up screens.=C2=A0 The engine is back together and in the c=
ar to race this year, assembled again with the Aviation Permatex on the rea=
r seal.=C2=A0 I guess I will need to find another oil.=C2=A0 To save some r=
esearch time, does anyone have suggestions of oil that does not attack the =
Aviation Permatex?=C2=A0 =C2=A0I have been using Shaffers race oils in my M=
iata.=C2=A0 I will need to check with them about compatibility.=C2=A0 It wo=
uld make it easier to have just one flavor of oil in the garage and trailer=

I have one thought to add to the sealant conversation and I am not intendin=
g to restart the entire oil debate by commenting on this. =C2=A0 I know tha=
t many on the list feel that Brad Penn is the only oil, and that is OK if t=
hat is your belief.
However, there are many good race oil choices on the market and more being =
added every day. =C2=A0Some of the synthetic and synthetic blend race oils =
have an additive package in them that is very aggressive to some of the tra=
ditional sealants. =C2=A0They will actually dissolve them even after they a=
re cured.
My tought here - =C2=A0if you have interest in trying a particular oil you =
should check with the oil manufacturers tech support regarding sealant comp=
atibility. =C2=A0Do some homework upfront and it will save you from having =
to tear down a fresh engine to re-seal your rear main gasket, oil pan, etc,=
etc.
Just my two-sense on the sealant subject.
