I freely admit that I take Concours d'Elegance too seriously. My definition
of Concours is verifying that all items are "as the car was assembled" so any
period accessory, no matter how well done or chosen should receive a
deduction. Andy Mace's quotes from the VTR guide concerning "period
accessories" leads to individual judges determining what is acceptable and
opens a real can of worms. A Concours judging job is tough for in a field of,
say, 19 TR3As he must find the car that finishes last as well as first. The
level of restorations that we all have seen in the past dozen or so years
makes the judging even harder and allowing period accessories only muddies up
the water. The goal of the authors of judging guides must be to remove as
many "personal opinions" as possible.

Don't get me started on "participants choice" balloting with its buddy and
trading votes system.
