Statistically, "routine" traffic stops are one of the most life 
threatening encounters for a policeman.  Its a fact. More cops have been 
killed (run over or shot) during traffic stops than any single other law 
enforcement encounter with the public.  They have every reason to be on 
guard.

Its your choice if you want to prove a point.  I personally choose to do 
what I can to reduce the risk of a mistake being made during what may be a 
split second decision on the officer's part.  It does not hurt my self 
esteem or pride nor does it make me feel submissive.
