Dear Jeff,
Did you indeed? My house is about the same size, but has no land
attached, apart from a small back garden and a tiny front garden.
Property taxes this year are around USD4000.

What a wonderful idea!

Quite. Do you have any public services at all in Louisiana? How are
schools, libraries, hospitals, refuse disposal, police, fire brigade,
street-sweeping, public transport, flood defences, and so on, funded?

This may explain the state of some of the cars I saw in the South when I
was there back in the mid-eighties...

How refreshing.

I can't.

If I were to leave my door open I would expect to find the house emptied
when I returned.

I daren't leave tools out in my back garden for ten minutes, and the
back gaarden is not even visible from the road.

In this country, encouraging children other than your own to spend time
with you is considered to be a sex offence, unless you are a registered
child-minder or education professional (these people being subject to
comprehensive police checks before they are allowed to work with
children).

Thank you: I'd love to.

Idyllic. :-)
