My God!  What a cleaver idea.  A key to take up the torque and
snap rings to locate it on the shaft.

Too bad it wouldn't be concourse.

Seriously this would be far superior to the taper pin IMHO.  There
are also a dozen other ways to skin this cat(fish) as well.
