Like Joe said, velocity stacks can work, but often times do not,
depending on design.
Dave Vizzard has some excellent articles on them in several of his
books.
Basically, as a rule of thumb, the more curved the velocity stack, the
better it flows. The more like a funnel, the worse it performs. True
funnel stacks will perform worse then no stack at all.

Can anyone else vouch for the claims made by this website that

I've been tempted by the stub stacks (same thing right?) that K&N make
for
their filters - but at 20 pounds for 2 little pieces of metal I always
thought they were a bit pricey.
