The spares live in the same fuse box, just above and below the 1st and 3rd.
When tracking down a short this weekend, I ran through my 17/35s, and used a
series of 20a to burn through until I isolated the problem (they're not
necessarly cheaper, but they are easier to find.)  I don't seem to have
damaged anything else by doing this, and have since returned the proper
fuses home.

My uneducated guess is that the 17 refers to the standard working load, and
the 35 refers to the ability to take on a brief surge, as when turning a
larger drawing component on at first (such as a wiper motor or headlights).
