Hello,
        So how many amps is the alt???  I bet it is more than 30 amps...the 
stock
alt is 35 amps.  If your batt is low then I bet it was putting put more than 
30 amps.  I don't run a fuse from the alt to the bat. I run a fuse on the second
line that i have hooked up that goes ingto the old alt wire.  IF you insist on 
putting afuse on the alt to batt wire go to radio shack and get a fancy 60 amp
or so fuse that they use with high powered stereos.
