Hello Adam,
I can't see the back of your alt so I don't know what the 2nd
is for but it shuould be ground. I think it is a good idea to connect
the alt to ground-ideally the same point as the batt gound. Some
people sway that you don't need it cause it will ground thru the engine and the
existing ground straps...but more ground straps is not a bad thing. How many
amps is the alt? Is 12 guage wire going to be enough?? I thin kI have 0
gauge wire in my 100amp alt. installation. You can remove all the old wire
stuff-voltage regulator and stuff tape up the old connection that you can't
remove.
With this set-up the alt wil only charge after you goose it up to like
2000rpm then mine usually stays charging till the revs drop below like 700rpm.
For peace of mind I would hook it up and check the charginmg voltage with a
voltmeter first thing.should be above 13.8 ish volts. Then you should install
a voltmeter somewhere on your dash.
