As Michael says, you can still flat spot them, if you spin.

IMO no street tire can wear even close to as fast as a set of Hoosier
autoxers. I would not plan on getting any more use out of that set after
the school. Now having said that, if you really really want to run R tires
it's probably better and cheaper to buy a brand new set of Kumhos just for
the school. They are cheaper to start out with, and at least you can be
fairly confident that they'll last for the duration of the school.
Whatever's left after that you can use at GGF, where they will be far
superior to Hoosiers in any condition, weather, whatever. And they have the
same "R tire feel" (rocks spattering against your wheel wells, I guess) just
not quite as much grip.
I personally have seen (and note that you cannot debate this, because I'm
only talking about my own experience:) the most, and ugliest wear at GGF,
but 3Com is also a very abrasive site. The cars that Randy and I drive are
extremely easy on tires as they have lots of front camber, not too much
weight and not much power. I would guess that a powerful Vette will have
much higher rates of wear. I think the bottom line is none of us want to
see anyone unknowingly burn through an entire set of very expensive Hoosiers
in 1 day, unless they are paid for by a sponsor.

Thanx again everyone for the advice. I see everyone's points but still
cannot decide...
a) My vette has antilock brakes so flat spotting my tires is a non-issue
b) My street tires are much more expensive then my race tires and are kind
of soft so
they wear pretty fast (granted not as fast as the hoosiers)
c) After running 2 events on my hoosiers already this year, I can
definitely say the
handling characteristics between my hoosiers and my street tires are
VERY
different.
d) I'm no expert (a very relative term) but I am pretty good at most of
the basic
driving techniques and in knowing the correct line.
I'm so confused...
Of course, I can probably swap tires during lunch at the schools.
thanx,
joey (Yes Virginia, I do want to have my cake and eat it too) jarosz
