I'm thinking about adding an alternator to my car. I happen to have a new Bosch alternator in the shop, it seems to need a charging light to excite the coils (sounds slightly rude). I've heard also o

The light wire essentially "energizes" the field windings through the light circuit. If the alternator isn't charging, then the light is at ground and +12V applied to the other side lights it up, in

This is exactly the point I'm trying to understand, and get an answer for. Our regional rules (CASC) state that the main cut-off switch must cut off the alternator as well as the battery, and I'm try

I'm in the processes of assembling my GT350 and have the same issue. I see that some battery cutoff switches say that they are to be used when an alternator is in use. Maybe it is just a second set o

A reply that may have not been copied to the list said that: "Pegasus offers a Cut-off Switch with Alternator Protection. The alternator circuit grounds through a 3 ohm resistor when the switch is in

Brian and all, This is a question I had also. The answer might be in the switch. HRP (Hoerr Racing Products) carries a switch made by Longacre for ($26.95) #LA4578 http://www.hoerr-racing.com/catalog

I think the best solution is to run the battery GROUND side thru the main cut-off terminals and the IGNITION hot wire thru the auxillary terminals. This requires a 2 circuit switch of course. Jack Wo

Does this Pegasus switch have dual contacts? If not it will protect the alternator and all solid state components from surge, but may not stop the engine unless the alternator cannot supply charge at

Good idea, Jack. Why isn't it obvious to interrupt the ground? It seems that it should be required to be that way. It there a down side? I can't think of one. Craig Wright /// unsubscribe/change addr

Hi Folks, The Alt freindly cut off switches have a dual function. When you turn them to the "off" position they disconnect the battery on one side of the circut and shunt the rest of the electical sy
