I have never heard of a SA12 coil. HA12 is the correct one for TR4 and 4A. LA12 was used on many British cars ie the Mini and Morris 1000. I would like to know what the first letter signifies. It may

It appears to be even simpler than that. "SA" is simply the model designation for the Sports Coil ("Sports; fluid cooled" according to the Lucas Master Catalogue. Oh, and "Aluminium case"). --Andy An
