I have never heard of a SA12 coil.

HA12 is the correct one for TR4 and 4A. LA12 was used on many British cars
ie the Mini and Morris 1000.

I would like to know what the first letter signifies. It may be something to
do with the primary resistance.

Anyone on the list know?
