Randy--It is more common for owners to tell us when something Doesn't work, when installed in their TR. Such is the case for several who have used the Pertronics triggering system. Their advantage, w

Dick's answer begs a question I've been meaning to ask for a long time... On a basically stock engine are there advantages to using a an upgraded coil? If you upgrade the coil what other things need

Dwayne--It is said that a coil wound "hotter" than the stock one provided by the factory, will throw a larger spark at the plugs. To take advantage of this, one would then have to widen the plug gap

Dwayne--IMHO, anything you can do to get a higher voltage potential at the spark plug is a good thing. From that simple perspective, an upgraded coil makes sense, as well as a more efficient voltage

The advantages to using a hotter coil are all in the reliability/durability/emissions arena. There is no power or mileage advantage to using a hotter coil. The disadvantages are few: - First, using

So $25 for a stock style coil or $35 for a Lucas Sports Coil... not much of a difference there. Even the Crane Coils I sell with Crane Ignitions are in the in the $40 range... so cost is not too bad.

I agree with Kai on all points. The weak link with our stock TR's is finding a suitable distributor cap that won't fail under the higher voltage potentials that a great set of cables and a fat plug g

I am going to take exception with the horsepower claim. The speed of the flame front is strictly limited by the chemistry involved, and is independent of the energy delivered during the ignition eve

What I was told about 45 years ago whilst learning to fix LBC's was that the best ignition in the world will not give you one more HP, but if yours is not real good you can loose HP in groups. FWIW

You won't lose your tach by installing an electronic ignition like a Petronix or Crane Cams setup. These simply replace the mechanical points, they don't replace the whole distributor. The tach runs
