The benifit of running a dry compression test first is that it allows you to
check the relative sealing capabilities of the piston rings.  If you have a
low reading on your dry test and then perform a wet test and come up with
similar readings, you can narrow your search for the problem to the upper
cylinder area.  Could have a burnt valve, split valve or any number of
problems.  Hope this helps anyone who needs it.
