As a side comment, Harbor Freight sells an inexpensive remote starter switch
($7 list, frequently on sale for $3.50) that is very handy for such
operations.

5 percent variation is very good, 10 percent is generally considered
acceptable unless you're working on a race motor.

The actual reading is almost meaningless, since it varies with a lot of
things (including atmospheric pressure, engine temperature and the
individual compression gauge). The variation between cylinders is what's
important.
