>Thanks for the quick reply. I checked voltage and I'm getting a solid 15
volts there. My dash gauge is also showing solid charge at idle that
increases under acceleration. So I guess I keep looking. Is it possible
that I've somehow introduced a short in the system -- I did have the whole
interior out and had disconnected seat belt connections and interior light
connection. My instincts tell me this isn't the problem since a short
would
cause a failure or blown fuse, but I'm not sure where to look next.

Micky, if you are running 15 volts at the brown/yellow wire while battery
voltage is staying closer to 13 volts this I'll be a dollar to a doughnut
(for get that - lets just say I would expect) that you have a bad (shorted)
diode in the diode assembly. It is one of the three connected to the main
output terminal (the one connected to the battery). This probably happened
when you reconnected and there was an inadvertant arc. The high
voltage/high frequency generated in the arc found a weak spot in a diode
and took it out. Or the doide was due to fail and the re-upholstery job
was just a coincidence.

Replace (or have it replaced) the diode assembly and enjoy your alternator
for another 27 years.
