Bill-
I just finished installing a Skinner rug kit in my 3A, I alsoo
bought the sound deadening kit ( looks like really thick, chopped felt)
which I installed with 3M trim adhesive on all non-floorpan surfaces ( ie
tunnel, firewall, etc.). The felt seemed to lay down pretty well, so I
didn't use any adhesive under it on the floor. Next, the carpet went in,
a bit of adhesive in the verticals in the footwells, but none anywhere
else. Initially I bolted the seats in but found the extra 'depth' of the
carpet +padding made it a bit tough to move the seats, so I fired up the
tablesaw and ripped a few 3/8" strips up to use as spacers under the
seat-rails. I decided against slitting the carpets to allow for removal
from under the seats, although I can still easily remove both the forward
padding and carpet sections from the forward footwells. the padding seems
to stay in place pretty well, I used a few strips of velcro to hold the
carpets to the padding ( in the footwell) So far, so good. The padding
is a PITA to install, but seems to keep the objectionable noise down a
bit. ( ie gear whine in the diff and tranny) I suppose this method of
installation will force me to rely on "drying in place" if I'm caught in a
downpour, but I couldn't bring myself to slice up the new carpets......

When putting in carpet under a TR3's seats, do you cut
slits in the carpet for the seat rails to bolt it? It looks
like originally the seat rails bolted through the carpet. I
think that if there are slits in the carpets you could
remove them if the carpets get soaked.
I was planning on holding the forward floor carpets
down with velcro instead of staps. I think that other
listers have done this. Any downsides?
Thanks for all of the help the list has given on that
F****** angle drive on my OD trans. I ordered a new cable
today and pulled the angle drive off.
I hope to see other listers at Buttonwillow.
