I am positive I had slits for the seat rails in the carpet kit I got
years ago from Moss Cox & Buckles (London). I do not remember if they
were edged or not. Slits seem very sensible to me. How would you want
to build a perfect water and dirt trap just under your seats? It is a
almost impossible to install the carpets without unbolting the seats
from the rails when you remove them for a torough cleaning though.
As far as velcro goes. That's what I installed also and it did not
work:
a) the glue was not strong enough and over time it let go, starting
at the pan bossings
b) the glue was not strong enough on the carpets and I had to sew it.
The glue messed up the needle pretty bad and turned the job into a
nightmare. The stitches could be seen from above.
c) the velcro added an extra 3-4 mm of bumpiness in the carpet
After a year I installed original snaps and I am happy with them.
