I've been reading the recent throw-out bearing messages with intrigue and
began to wonder. Many people talk about installing the TO bearing as if it
almost needs to be pressed on. Having recently done a flywheel ring gear
due to necessity and a clutch for good measure (which included a new TO from
TRF) I'm bewildered by this talk. My TO bearing simply installed by hand
with no extracurricular activities required. Did I miss something?

Listers,
The TO bearing that I just bought from Toyota is a very beefy, sealed
type bearing. I went with the actual Toyota part versus an after market
LanCrusier bearing to ensure long life. I have only installed the sleeve
into the bearing but it is not in the car yet. I planned on documenting
the part numbers and dimensions anyways so I can post if anyone is
interested.

Kai,
When I put in a new throwout bearing (Toyota Land Cruiser version) I
wondered whether to pack it or not. Someone on the list said not to, so
I
didn't...even though it went against every instinct I had. Ten thousand
miles later and not a problem with it ever....just got back this PM from
a
500 mile road trip this weekend. And I just barely beat the snow. Yes
it's snowing in Denver AGAIN this spring!!!
Don't know why packing the TOB would cause it to fail but the advice I
was
given worked for me.

of
packing to capacity with more high-temp bearing grease as little seamed
to
be inside!!!
