I converted to halogen sealed beams in my six a couple of months ago and 
was extremely happy with the improvement in light ... cost about $15 
Canadian apiece ($10 US). Presume you are looking for separate bulb system, 
but for the price difference and the fact that no mods are necessary to the 
wiring, I think the sealed beams are a great solution.

Just my opinion. However, I would encourage everyone to at least upgrade to 
sealed halogens if they drive at night at all ... there is no comparison!
