Those of you with 4A's may have noticed the Moss motors catalog references
the TR250/6 sway bar is a "why -not" option for the 4A. I'm game for such a
upgrade. Heres my story....
Note: Body is off, frame is powder coated
- order all the parts (about $200)
- Rebuild the front end using Poly Pro bushes and new Grade bolts. No
trouble.
- "Trial" fit the sway bar and notice that there is really no way to attach
the bar to the bottom of the radiator shield as it is mounted on the tr6.
The tr4 has a much shorter shield. The 4 shield only has the two hold-down
loops extending forward while the 6 has about a 3" long face drilled to
accept the u-bolts that secure the bar.
- I order the shield for the '6 from Moss adding $80 to the upgrade cost....
I doesn't fit. The new part is to bit too narrow and the BIG fillet welds
prevent it from fully engaging with the frame. The bolts won't line up
without grinding on the welds (arghh). I'm running out of ideas.
- I notice that the 4A shield wouldactually work pretty good if the bar were
passed thru the holddown loops. The holes for the u-bolts are actually even
already drilled in the TR4 shield! The shape of the bar prevents it from
passing thru the holddown loops in the shield. Heres the tip.
If you bend one of the loops 45 degrees towards the outside of the car and
THEN pass the bar thru the loops, it works perfectly. The loops is then
straightened back and now the whole thing is bolted up nicely. Anyone
needing pictures send mail offlist and I'll reply. Any similar story that is
easier would be welcome. Did I miss something?
The bogus tr6 shield gets returned today.
