You probably don't need to replace the fuel pump, but I'd replace the pump
diaphragm- that's the piece o' rubber that does the actual pumping, and
it's replacable.  It's my guess that the diaphragm had shrunk a bit
causing the screws to be loose (and the gas to leak!)

AC pump diaphragms are not impossible to get- check your local parts
stores, the guys in Sooke had one in stock!  (Very, very old stock).  It's
mine now.

Sounds more like the second tag is the body number.  The first tag ("build
number") can also be called the "commision number".  The Engine number is
on the side of the engine block, on the drivers' (left) side, towards the
back.  Raised flat area, you'll probably have to wipe to gunk off to see
what it really is.  

Word of caution- the numbers won't match exactly.  But if they're within
200 or so, then you have the original equipment.  To find out for sure,
you'll need to get a build certificate from the BMIHT (someone else will
have to supply the link for that, I've never done it)
