Jim Hill states:
By not sending replies to the list AND the original poster AND everyone
else who's replied to the same thread - no one needs to get multiple copies
of the same reply.
By not _automatically_ crossposting everything to both the TR and Spit
lists unless the comment or question is germane to both.
---------------
Jim makes some good points but remember, not everyone works the same way,
has the same computer, belongs to the same lists, etc. Therefore on the
first of the above two points, remember that if the lister belongs to the
digest, the response would not be as timely if only the list were posted.
For this reason, I often ask for direct responses because I am waiting to
proceed using the advice I expect to receive. On the second point, If I
don't subscribe to both lists, I do not know what is going on over at the
other list. I do not know why the original author posted to both lists. If
I am the original poster to both lists, it is probably because there are
some different people on each of the lists and I want to tap into their
expertise. After all, if both lists are the same, why have two lists? My
.02 woth.
Cheers
