I'm 35... not buff... but in good shape.... and I've done it... but I
have found, that if possible.... it's really helpful to have the car
SECURELY up on jacks... with someone underneath sort of holding some of
the weight and making sure that the trans slides out without undue
pressure on the main shaft... etc...
In reassembling... I've come up with a trick...
I put long (like a few inches) bolts in first... so that I can line up
the trans properly... and then tighten the bolts a little bit at a
time... to draw the trans into place... being careful to twist the rear
of the trans occasionally to assure that I am engaging the clutch
properly... and also being careful that the trans is going on evenly
without binding...
I've done this method on about 6 trans changes on a TR 4A.... and it's
worked great every time!!! The only screw up I made... one time... was
putting the darn clut plate on backwards... cuz I was all cocky and
figured I'd done it so many times... that I didn't need to look at the
manual for a refresher.... so I didn't pay attention to the
orientation... What a fool... and what a pain!!! but... anyways....
give it a try!
