As an owner of a "Detroit Locker" in a TR4 I mus agree with Ken...
However not so vehemently... Nasty? Well it klunks at odd times,
lurches to the left on acelleration... The locker doesn't rely on
clutches like "normal" LSD rears. The mechanism is more like a
ratchet. When the driven wheel spins, the ratchet engages, or
locks up, allowing both wheels to be driven.

IRS guy, I don't know how you would use this solution, but
solid axle guys tune in... (originality weenies, delete this now).
John Reimer, who drives the wickedest MG TD street rod I've ever
seen (chevy 302 with 6, count `em 6 downdraft strombergs,)
suggests, if you're determined to have an LSD, trying a Ford 9".
There are plenty in wrecking yards... You can take your choice of
beaucoups ratios. What you save by not buying a Quaife will more
than pay for the rear, a rebuild (if needed) and the mods at the
machine shop to adapt it to Your TR... With enough left over to
toast your frugality with a liver abuser of choice.
