I just left mine connected to the canister, but I "gutted" it first.  Also
hooked my breather line to the top with 1/2" heater hose.  Sort of looks
like it belongs there.  By the crud inside my gas vent lines coming from the
tank, I doubt they were functional anyway.  BTW, you will LOVE the dual SUs!
