Thanks for the information. After digging back through my emails I found I
purchased a 400C instead of a 325C. I ended up getting it cheaper than the
325C at the time. Which may have been overkill and part of the cause for this
issue due to more draw. I have a 125 PSI switch. Looks like I am still OK
with the amperage since the 400c is at 26 amp draw.
I will also look at the use of a relay that Rick suggested. I am using a
toggle switch, but I am not really to keen on tying it to the ignition switch.
Mine in the past would loose air overnight, before I took care of all the
leaks. If a leak happened again I would have to get the ignition turned on to
run the pump.
Just to reply to a few other questions in one email. It was blowing a 30 amp
fuse, but I am not sure of the wire gauge. I am guessing 14 by the look of
it. The original pump had very thin lead wires compared to the Viair. This
really had not been an issue since I had been filling it with an air
compressor up to about 110 and then using the pump for the rest. I am mainly
trying to get it realiable on it's own which made me run across this.
The original air pump set up did not have a fuse and I felt that I needed to
get one in there. I did the same for the door switches since mine was running
direct from the battery.
I decided to go on the overkill side by purchasing a 10 gauge wire and a 30
amp ATC fuse holder with 12 gauge lead wires since no one seems to have a 10
gauge leads even though they sell the wire. I will see how that works out,
but from the emails 12 gauge seems to be the chosen wire.
In reading up on the pump installation from Viair they recommend the pump to
not get wet. Not a big concern since I never drive the car if there is a hint
of rain, but has anyone mounted their air pump inside the car? I was thinking
about behind the rear wheel on the drivers side behind the side trim panel.
Not sure if there is enough room there or not, but I will probably look into
that later. It will definitely be a shorter wire run. I will install it where
it is behind the bumper right now to see how it performs before looking at
relocating it.
