Arnold,
If you are in HS, you can run any DOT legal tire, which includes competition
tires. That is, stock class does allow non-stock tires, as long as they're
DOT legal.
However, you cannot use "sticky" tires (even if DOT legal) if you are in
street touring or if you are in novice.

Thanks everyone for your answers. Basically, I want to get stickier tires
for my car but I want to stay in stock. Maybe I'm confused about the
difference between Street Tire and Stock. I'm currently in H-Stock. I want
to get better tires without changing categories. Does that make sense? I
guess putting non-stock tires puts me in Street Tire? Looks like I got quite
a bit more reading to do...
