For the Blue Ridge Region of SW Virginia:

March through early December

At least 8 but we try for 9 or 10.

Most of our lots are small so they're tight and twisty. There is the
occasional lot where we can open it up some.

All are asphalt. Some old, some newer. Our charity event last Sunday is
a large asphalt lot with concrete strips in it. One lot has been sealed
which gets very slippery in the rain.

Depends on the number of entries and whether we can go late. If we start
running at noon, we can get 4 runs on a 50 second course. Goal is 4 but
we will drop back to 3 if time gets tight.

Weather and other events is the determining factor on entrants. At
Sunday's event we had 98 entries (some of us running multiple cars). A
one very cold event, it started sleeting and we ended up with 40 people.
I like to see at least 60 but more than 80 makes it imperative that the
event goes smoothly.

I'd say about 20% novice, 70% with varying levels of experience, and 5%
with divisional and national experience. A number are also road racers.
At the last event we had 6 driver that have competed at nationals,
including G.H. Sharp.

Our biggest problems in running events is registration & tech and worker
changes. It just takes too much time. Too often we can't get the workers
to remember or hear when they are to work. In trying to improve our
procedures I been visiting other regions and watching how they run events.
It's been helpful and I've been able to incorporate a number of ideas.

As a region, we've made the decision to keep our events to a manageable
level and more sociable. Our membership prefers that as opposed to just
getting the maximum number of cars to run.

Seeking input on your autoxing area.
How long is your season?
How many events in that season?
What kind of courses are run (technical, open, top speed, etc.)?
What condition is the surface in?
How many runs can be had at an event, including extra runs?
What's the typical turnout and how long does the event usually take?
What caliber of drivers are at the event, any national winners?

Feel free to add any questions and answers.
Has this study been done before?

Thanks,
Kevin Wallace
