Hi Steve:

That sort of fits with what I have observed. I have 4 Coker Classic
redlines on my TR6. Last year I hit some sort of metal object on the
highway and gouged out a big canyon right up the outer sidewall of one
tire. Had to buy a new tire of course. Anyway, the gouge showed that
there was red rubber under the black for at least a couple of inches
away from the exposed red line. I gouged out at least half the thickness
of the sidewall and exposed a very healthy layer of red, so it's not
just red rubber paint under the black.

The jury is still out on the tires overall as they could be a little out
of round, but so far they are holding up for driving.

Cheers,

Mark

John,
The Coker tires are the Michelin redlines. Coker owns the molds
(purchased
from Michelin) and Michelin manufactures them using the Coker molds.
They are
early '70s technology and aren't your tire if you're concerned with the
best
ride and handling. There are better choices which I'm sure someone else
on
the list will provide.

Possibly you already knew this, but on a true redline, the whole casing
is
red under the outer layer with only the redline exposed for the desired
effect.

Cheers!
Steve
