Fwd: Restoration paint job

I was checking around for quotations on a paint job for my 76. I had
quotations from $3200.00 (5 yr. guarentee) to $7000.00 (lifetime guarantee
against defects not regular ageing). The body of the car is in great shape
with no visible signs of rust, just dead paint. This is included me taking
off all the trim, chrome and the interior out and replacing it. I only paid
$6000 for the car so it was hard to justify a $7000.00 paint job, especially
when it is a daily driver. When you are done the value of the car increases
only a fraction of what the paint job costs. I went with the $3200.00 paint
job which cost about $4500.00 when done. I am not really happy with the
quality of work. The body shop has agreed to take the car back to fix the
problems (runs, orangepeel and dust in the paint) and if necessary repaint
it.
It really comes down to is what you perceive as good value for your dollar.

Hi listers,
I just returned from a custom paint garage with a quote of $7500 for a
complete restoration paint job with all the bells and whistles - lifetime
guarantee, etc. Has anyone ever put that kind of money into their TR6
for a primo paint job? Estimate wait time is anywhere from 6mos. to a
year!
