A $7500 paint job with a lifetime guarantee is a terrific idea, but only if:
1) You're under 30 and thus in a position to make maximum use of the
guarantee.
2) You have some reason to believe that the paint shop will still be in
business--under the same ownership--for the rest of your lifetime.
3) You're never going to move to another city unless your paint shop has a
branch office there.
4) You're certain that you're never, ever going to sell the car. Not only
because you'll never see a fraction of that $7500 in the sales price (the
new owner will probably want to repaint it the same color as the TR he
owned/wanted back in 197?), but because the "lifetime guarantee" will die
when the car is sold. You can test your resolve to keep the car forever by
answering this question: How long did you keep your LAST car?
5) You're certain that you're never, ever going to drive the car _OR_ it
won't bother you at all when you start picking up stone chips, fender dents
that look suspiciously like the work of shopping carts, door creases the
same color as that SUV that was parked next to you and the other slings and
arrows of outrageous fortune, etc., etc.
If my car had a paint job that was worth more than the car underneath and I
couldn't drive it whenever I wanted to without being in mortal fear for its
good looks, I'd seriously consider trading the car for a nicely done oil
painting of a Triumph.
Just my opinion - not to be confused with rational thought.
