I'm really amazed at the costs quoted by the shops in this thread.
I never tried to get any locally, but just figured it would be in
the $2-3K range.
I DIY'd my '72 TR6 resto last year and was very pleased with the
results (until that d#*n rake fell on the bonnet last week).
Let's see.....$100 auto body night school, $200 filler, glass,
sandpaper, DA sander, patches, $500 MIG welder, $200 spray booth
rental, $1100 2K primer, Glasurit BC/CC and about 200 hours of my
labor (in 3 months).
Yes, there were a few tiny spots I missed, but ya gotta catch them
in the light just right to see them. The down side is it was a lot
more work than I expected, and touching up BC/CC is twice the work
as SS; the upside: I have a bunch of neat equipment (and a little
more knowledge) for my next project.
