James---What you could be experiencing is cowl shake, present to some
degree in a lot of the old roadsters due to lack of structural ridigity.
Clutches hat don't release smoothly seems to magnify the shake.
Body-to-frame bolts, along with the bolts that connect the dash support
to the dash and floor pan should be checked and/or tightened to see if
this reduces what you feel.
When T/O bearings "go bad", they start by singing to you when the clutch
is starting to disengage. If you aren't listening, then they will later
growl.
I'm with Tim and others with Ryan's posting regarding the crap shoot on
the standard T/O bearings. I'm surprised that TRF does not own up to
this. While it's possible to do some damage when fitting the stock T/O
bearing on the carrier sleeve, I doubt that this alone made our
suppliers look for a better bearing, such as the one for the Toyota Land
Cruiser now being marketed as "magic".
