Pete, Dave et al,

I couldn't afford an M.G. before the war so was forced to drive an Austin 7.
The 7's engine was similar to the J2's in one respect only, it had a two
bearing crank! We were taught (something that doesn't happen much nowadays)
to "row it along on the cog sorter". If you drove that way you covered a lot
of ground in a short time and without over stressing the engine. If you kept
the revs below 5500 you'd never break a crankshaft, or at least I didn't.
