Out east, it seems the budget friendly seats we see most are made by Kirk=
ey. There used to be a couple of models that worked well and looked OK in ou=
r cars, but 10 years ago when I bought the seat for my TR3 I found only one t=
hat fit the bill. I seem to remember it was the Series 38.

dard-10-to-20-Layback

Figure a little over $500 for the seat and cover from Summit Racing.

When choosing a seat, you want one that holds your butt and torso firmly w=
hen strapped in, and since you will be sharing the car with multiple drivers=
that may turn out to be a compromise. The seats come in different widths, a=
nd it really helps to have both you and the son-in-law sit in the a couple t=
o verify the fit. Hopefully you will find one that is not too snug for one a=
nd not too loose for the other. If you run into trouble, remember you can al=
ways fabricate a foam insert (or just stuff some foam in the right places) t=
o take up excess room for the smaller of the two drivers.

The seat needs to be attached to some real structure under the car, I wel=
ded brackets off the frame to give me real steel to bolt to, same for the be=
lts. A pretty easy task on a TR3, the frame is pretty close to where the bol=
ts came through the floor on Old Blue. Just using big fender washers under t=
he sheet metal floor is not the best way to go, especially considering the 6=
0 year old sheet metal.

Good luck, and I hope you guys make it to the Kastner Cup!
