Just bought a Kirkey 38170.The challenge for guys like us is to get a seat =
that is wide enough for our child bearing hips, while still fitting down in=
to the channel in the pan on a Spitfire (Schr=C3=B6dinger's bucket?).=C2=A0=
I would have preferred a full containment seat, but there was simply no ro=
om with the original cage in place.
While I am reasonably sure a 17" would fit you snugly, if you have time, it=
would be worth trying on a 16" as it would fit in the car easier.
I am bringing a pair of Spitfires back into track service after many dorman=
t years.=C2=A0 Be safe, have fun!

Figure a little over $500 for the seat and cover from Summit Racing.
When choosing a seat, you want one that holds your butt and torso firmly wh=
en strapped in, and since you will be sharing the car with multiple drivers=
that may turn out to be a compromise. The seats come in different widths, =
and it really helps to have both you and the son-in-law sit in the a couple=
to verify the fit. Hopefully you will find one that is not too snug for on=
e and not too loose for the other. If you run into trouble, remember you ca=
n always fabricate a foam insert (or just stuff some foam in the right plac=
es) to take up excess room for the smaller of the two drivers.=C2=A0
The seat needs to be attached to some real structure under the car, I welde=
d brackets off the frame to give me real steel to bolt to, same for the bel=
ts. A pretty easy task on a TR3, the frame is pretty close to where the bol=
ts came through the floor on Old Blue. Just using big fender washers under =
the sheet metal floor is not the best way to go, especially considering the=
60 year old sheet metal.
