I have a 68 spit with 74 overdrive tranny in it. The tranny needs to be repaired. It pops out of gear and grinds a little when going into 2,3,4. I got a ball park estimate of $600 assuming new seals,

Sounds like lack of fuel at 70 MPH which is near max throttle and max fuel useage. I would make sure the mixture is correct, It is possibly too lean. Also make sure your carb can get enough fuel, che

Remove the exhaust manifold from the head. Also remove all exhaust hangers, This will make the entire thing disconnected from the motor. You should have more room now to undo the bolt. Also I think S

Well, I don't know what year spit you have, but on my 68 Mk II/III, the exhaust and intake manifolds are held on by a a number of nuts on studs which can each be removed after the carbs are removed.
