I have checked the manuals and can't seem to find out if the underside of the hardtop that mates to the car body is supposed to have some sort of lining or protection. I hate to have metal on metal.

Jim and Larry, There should be some gap between the round pads and the body. This allows for some flexing of the top when going over bumps, etc. otherwise the pads are constantly rubbing against the
