Or perhaps not the only idiot. :-) On the suggestion of one member I hooked a hose up to the rad and started the engine and let the water cycle through. It seemed to come out at the same rate it was going in. That's good. It might have violated a law of physics otherwise. I don't know that engine or the implementation in your TVR, but water should still circulate through the block and head with the thermostat closed. Is there any chance (due to blockage) that the coolant could be cycling through the head and rest of the system just find but bypassing the block? Why? Isn't it the job of the thermostat to maintain the engine temperature at a certain level? If you have and 82 degree thermostat and the gauge says 90 at equilibrium, I'd say neither is far off. You can't expect the temp gauge to be totally accurate.I now also know my temp sender/gauge is screwed: with cool water passing through the system, the sender/gauge was reading 90 deg. Celsius. The sender is at the thermostat and this doesn't seem right to me. 4 liters sounds way too small. Most cars take 3-4 gallons, I can't imagine any cooling system in a 2.5 liter car taking less than 8 liters, unless there's something else in the cooling system, either air or solid deposits, sand, crud, etc., taking up the extra volume.Another factoid: my modified cooling system seems to only take 4 liters of water. A little less than 2 liters sit in the rad itself. Would another 2 liters fill the block, heater, manifold and hoses? I know this isn't much coolant but it is a modified system and has a heck of a lot of fans to back it up. And anyway, is this the correct forum for discussing such things? My understanding is this was for discussing matters of VTR Club business, not Triumph cars. You might get more action on one of the other forums, such as the triumph list or the big British cars list. _______________________________________________________________________ Wayne Simpson StagHunter@comcast.net Original owner, 1980 TR8 #TPVDV8AT213188 Posieden Green, Golden Tan Check Second owner, 1973 Stag #LE 21416 U Carmine Red, Saddle Tan Classic cars: Brick Township, NJ Don't crush 'em, Restore 'em! _______________________________________________________________________ /// /// vtr@autox.team.net mailing list /// Send admin requests to majordomo@autox.team.net /// Send list postings to vtr@autox.team.net /// Edit your replies!
